Reference 222 was launched in 1977 to celebrate the manufacturer’s 222nd year of continues watch manufacture. It was made in a limited edition of 500 examples in stainless steel, 120 in stainless steel and gold and 100 in 18K gold.Reference 222 is a classic time-only watch, its design is different from any other watch of Vacheron Constantin’s production at the time. It was meant to be a bold sports watch, reflecting the fashion of the late 1970s, which it unquestionably does.Today, examples of reference 222 appearing in public are highly coveted collector’s pieces, especially when in such well-preserved condition as these three specimen.
